THE INHERITED
EMBER
A working hypothesis: Earth may carry a thermal legacy from a violent stellar-impact event — an inherited ember that explains its anomalous heat, strong magnetic field, and sustained geological activity after 4.5 billion years.
Not a proven theory. A testable hypothesis with a falsification program.

The Core Insight
What if the universe uses more than one way to build planets?
Earth loses 47 TW of heat. Standard radiogenic decay accounts for 20-38 TW. Venus — nearly Earth's twin in size — loses only 11-17 TW, fully explained by its radiogenic budget. Earth has a strong magnetic field and active plate tectonics. Venus has neither. Mars died 4 billion years ago.
The Inherited Ember Hypothesis proposes that a rare minority of planets may form from material ejected during violent stellar-impact events — when a massive rogue body (brown dwarf to super-Jupiter scale) strikes a young star. These worlds inherit thermal energy, hydrogen fuel, and possibly transient nuclear products from the impact. This legacy — the Inherited Ember — may extend their geodynamic life beyond what radiogenic decay alone can sustain.
The hypothesis does not claim the nebular model is wrong. It proposes that the universe may use two formation channels rather than one: Path A (MOSAIC-L) — the standard dust-accretion model that produces most planets — and Path B (Ember) — a rare impact-origin channel that produces worlds with anomalous heat. Earth is treated as a candidate Ember world, not a proven one.
"What happens if a star gets hit by a chunk of rock that it doesn't dwarf?"

Two Paths, Not One
The standard model explains most planets. The Ember model explains the anomalous ones.
Molecular cloud collapse → protoplanetary disk → accretion
Stellar impact ejecta → debris disk → accretion with inherited energy
Radiogenic decay (U, Th, K) + secular cooling + crystallization
Same as Path A PLUS inherited thermal legacy from formation event
Weakens and dies as radiogenic heat depletes (Mars)
Sustained by additional heat source — strong dipole persists
Slows and stops as mantle cools (stagnant lid — Venus)
Sustained by vigorous mantle convection from excess heat
Delivered by water-bearing planetesimals during accretion
Inherited from stellar/impactor hydrogen — potentially different D/H ratio
Primordial nebular capture — trapped for 4.5 Gyr
Produced during transient inferno + primordial capture
Dies when radiogenic fuel depletes — billions of years
Extended by thermal legacy — geodynamically alive longer
Venus (thermal equilibrium, no field, no tectonics)
Earth (excess heat, strong field, active tectonics)
"The Ember hypothesis does not require new physics for planet formation. It requires new physics only for the origin of the disk material. The formation mechanisms are shared."
— MOSAIC-EMBER v0.5, Part V
The Deep Engine Equation
Earth's thermal engine is a sum of contributions — standard geophysics remains real and load-bearing.
Pdeep(t) = Prad + Pcool + Pcryst + Pfiss + Pember + Pμf
Green = established science · Amber = working hypothesis · Orange = core claim · Purple = frontier speculation (optional)
Uranium, thorium, potassium decay — measured via geoneutrinos
Mantle and core cooling from primordial heat
Latent heat from inner core growth
Possible deep fission pockets — modest amplifier
Thermal legacy from stellar-impact formation event
Optional deuterium-based processes — neutrino-invisible
Earth's total heat loss: 47 ± 2 TW. Radiogenic estimates: 20-38 TW. The "heat gap" is model-sensitive — it could be as small as ~9 TW or as large as ~27 TW. The Ember term must fit inside this uncertainty, not outside it. We do not pretend standard geophysics is fake.
A central georeactor above ~2.4 TW is excluded at 95% confidence by geoneutrino data. D-D fusion is neutrino-invisible — the constraint does not apply to deuterium-based processes.
The Control Experiments
Venus, Mars, and the Moon — three bodies that tell us what Earth is NOT.

Same Mother, Too Small
Too small to retain the Ember
Earth has more efficient heat loss (plate tectonics) than Venus (stagnant lid), yet Earth loses MORE total heat. Under standard physics, more efficient cooling should mean less total heat output — unless there is an additional heat source inside Earth that Venus lacks.
— Observation from Kimi Critical Analysis (inadvertently supporting the hypothesis)
The Deuterium Solution
The impactor brings the fuel, not the star. Cold rogue bodies preserve primordial deuterium perfectly.
The Problem (Eidan's Critique)
Stellar interiors destroy deuterium. The Sun's core contains essentially zero deuterium. If the fuel must come from the star, there is no fuel. This was the strongest objection to the original hypothesis.
The Solution
The deuterium doesn't come from the star. It comes from the impactor — a cold rogue body drifting through interstellar space at ~50 K for billions of years, with its primordial deuterium perfectly preserved.
(Jupiter-mass rogue)
(Earth-mass icy rogue)
(deuterium preserved)
Neutrino Invisibility
D-D fusion produces neutrons and protons — not the electron antineutrinos detected by KamLAND and Borexino. Any deuterium-based process in Earth's core would be completely invisible to every existing geoneutrino detector. The 2.4 TW constraint applies to fission reactors and p-p chain fusion — not to deuterium processes.

How We Got Here
The evolution from the original georeactor hypothesis to MOSAIC-EMBER v0.5 — through honest dialectic.
The Breeder Georeactor (AG.19-AG.20)
Original hypothesis: Earth contains a natural fast-breeder fission reactor at its core. Proposed by Kenneth Johnson, formalized by Gemini Deep Think.
The Eidan Audit (Feb 2026)
Eidan challenged five critical problems: centrifuge error, angular momentum, mass ejection budget, Venus density anomaly, and the heat budget uncertainty. The fission mechanism was seriously questioned.
Kimi Agent Swarm Review (Mar 2026)
Four-document critique identified logical fallacies, probability cascade concerns, and the centrifuge physics error. Forced a complete rethinking of the formation mechanism.
The Inherited Ember (MOSAIC-EMBER v0.5)
Reframed: not a 'tiny star' but a thermal legacy from a stellar impact. Deuterium solution resolves fuel problem. Two-path model respects standard science. Every critique addressed head-on.
"Your child is a piece of you with its own heat source that came from you directly, but will die if not nurtured — in Earth's case, by the Sun's shine on us, its warmth and gaze, and gravity to keep it close as it cools and forms into what it will be on its own."
— Kenneth Johnson, The Mother Star
"Whether the physics ultimately confirms or falsifies this hypothesis, the question was worth asking. The universe does not punish honest inquiry."
— MOSAIC-EMBER v0.5, Part XV
